What Does This Mean for Tbaytel Postpaid Customers?

How will the AT&T and T-Mobile 3G shutdown affect me as a Postpaid Mobility customer?

The U.S. 3GHSPA network shutdowns will only affect a subset of Postpaid Tbaytel customers who travel to the U.S. and have devices that do not support 4G LTE data and Voice over Long-Term Evolution (VoLTE) roaming. Since Tbaytel relies on the 3G HSPA networks of our partners to enable traditional voice calling for customers when in the U.S. (including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands), the shutdown of these networks will impact Tbaytel customers travelling in the U.S. as follows:

  • 3G HSPA only devices will be unable to roam or access voice (including 911), send or receive text messages or use cellular data while on a U.S. partner’s 4G LTE network
  • 4G LTE (non-VoLTE) devices will be able to access text and data services on the 4G LTE network but will not have access to voice services (including 911), while roaming on a U.S. partner’s 4G LTE network
  • 4G LTE/VoLTE devices will be able to access voice, text and data services while roaming on a U.S. partner’s 4G LTE network

Note: Most phones today support 4G LTE data and VoLTE roaming networks, so only a subset of devices will be affected.
